While Newry and Mourne Council discusses what to do next, various reports indicate that someone from the Real IRA phoned UTV`s radio station, U105, and claimed that they were the “republican micro organisation” which fire-bombed four stores in Newry, TK Maxx, JJB Sports, MFI and Carpetright – which the RTÉ report helpfully explains are British-owned companies. I remain unconvinced that appealing to such groups to examine their motives is a useful move, better not to be snookered by the rhetoric. And an interesting snippet from the Carpetright website, in September 2005 they opened their 500th store.. in Cork.. Update As Miss Fitz pointed out in the comments below, TK Maxx is, in fact, owned by the US group, The TJX Companies, Inc.
