Northern Ireland’s top cop has said he will retire in June. From his Twitter post:
I have today informed @NIPolicingBoard of my intention to retire at the end of June. It’s been a huge honour to have served the public through policing for almost 34 years & undoubtedly the greatest privilege of my career has been to serve as Chief Constable of @PoliceServiceNI

According to his Wikipedia page, he is only 51, seems quite young to retire? But if you had a 200k salary and a rather handsome pension you might be tempted to have an easier life.
Heading the PSNI is no easy task and George Hamilton has always seemed a straight-talking fair-minded guy who was always willing to engage and give straight answers. In these turbulent times, his steady capable presence will be missed.

My politics tend towards middle-of-the-road pragmatism, I am not a member of any political party. Oddly for a member of the Slugger team, I am not that interested in daily politics, preferring to write about big ideas in society. When not stuck in front of a screen, I am a parkrun Run Director.
