Cui bono?

Given ongoing concerns about the performance of the legislative Assembly, and how many jobs some MLAs are getting paid to do, it’s not surprising that a story about a proposed 16% pay rise should provoke the raising of quite a few eyebrows.. and calls for an independent panel.. and even, given a particular party employee system, some somewhat meaningless posturing. But, as the BBC’s Mark Devenport now acknowledges, the Senior Salaries Review Body isn’t due to produce a draft report until the summer and, according to UTV’s Jamie Delargy, they haven’t even begun to take evidence in that review.. So who was the source for the story? Cui bono?
