The individual known as Abbas Boutrab, a 27 year old Algerian, convicted in Belfast earlier this year on charges of possessing and collecting information “for a purpose connected with the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism”, has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment.. except, as the BBC report, he has already served 2 years 7 months on remand and could be released in April next year.. at which point he is expected to be deported. Where he will be deported to isn’t exactly clear as his real identity remains unknown and, as the BBC note –
A senior detective said he remained “a determined terrorist who has become expert in the procurement and forging of false identities” and had “a strong allegiance to a terrorist group that is linked to the al-Qaeda network”.
