Not sure there is much we can say other than take you back to what was being said and thought at the time. Blair was in Gleneagles (as was most of the international press corps) hosting the G8 and surrounded by protesters and had to fly down to London. The protest fizzled out shortly after news got there of the London Bombs. There is a collection of short memories of the day have been playing on BBC Radio Four all day. Most memorable was academic Nimrod Ben-Cnaan’s recollection of regulars in the British Library who normally work in a discrete unacknowledging silence, nodding to each other as if to say, ‘I’m glad you are still here’.
