Just the two stripes, not three?!
More scepticism on Sinn Fein's intentions for the future from William Sjostrum, who sees a (presumably unintended) significance in a flag he saw in Dublin last weekend. Although, personally, I've never heard of the two striped flag he's refering to.

Update: Ah, William, you may just have gotten it wrong after all - thanks Henry!

I suppose WHEN there is a UI the Irish tricolour will have outlived its purpose, so we could come up with a new flag.

No suggestions as to its construct though.

He is wrong and here is the photographic evidence

'He is wrong ...'

Personally, I think it's a Limerick conspiracy to take over the island!!!

smcgiff

Orange and green could unite against that.

Posted by: Henry94 at September 30, 2005 02:45 PM

Thanks Henry. I've just amended the post above. You have to admit though, the orange part is a bit behind the corner?

Mick

The answer was blowing in the wind.

'He is wrong and here is the photographic evidence'

BTW, Henry, are you suggesting photographic evidence is conclusive!

Posted by: smcgiff at September 30, 2005 02:56 PM

Henry,

Have you been overdosing on the Scorsese Arena documentary on Dylan?

Posted by: Mick at September 30, 2005 03:00 PM

smcgiff

Well in this case I'd have to admit the eye-witness wasn't up to much.

But maybe too much blogging isn't good for the sight.

Mick

Wasn't it great. I'm hoping Santa brings the DVD.

I thought it was a girl with an Italian Flag.

But as the perception is often as important as the reality I'll concede that, on this occasion, it is in fact a woman with an Irish flag which has only 2 stripes - meaning out with the protestants.

I'm hoping Santa brings the DVD

That may depend on whether Santa has any reindeer left, Henry ;)

The man is clearly poorly sighted! How the feck could he not see the third colour....? But that is perfectly excuseable - to rant on in a post about some conspiracy etc etc etc ....makes you want to weep that the internet has allowed such easy access to people

looking in

He won't be blogging long. With vision like that the Sunday Independent are bound to snap him up.

Good to see Sinn Fein reaching out to the thriving Irish-Italian community on the island by flying the Italian flag...

On a similar vein has anyone been to Republican Sinn Fein web site. There is a puzzling amount of articles in German! Cant recall seeing many in Irish. Anyone know what the German angle to RSF is?

Jeremy "Anyone know what the German angle to RSF is?". Funny you should ask handschuhschneeballwerfer

KeithM - ?what are you gettin at?

Posted by: Jeremy at September 30, 2005 08:25 PM

Flags, eh? Let me tell you about flags. Or our own beloved (or not so beloved) tricolour.

The Orange in the flag represents, for obvious reasons, the Protestant tradition in Ireland. Where did the Green come from? Well, long before the tricolour came into being, Blue was the colour which represented Catholic i.e Gaelic and Old English (Norman) Ireland. Some might argue that Gold harp on a blue background was the nearest we had to a national flag pre 18th century.

Green came to represent Ireland as it was a mix of Blue (Catholic) and Orange (Protestant)

Thus, if you exclude the White, the tricolour is 3/4 Protestant! Naturally, I expect to see next year's Loyalist rioters to take note and attack the nationalist pawns in the PSNI waving their own true flag.

Perhaps he's gunning for a job with the new Oirish Daily Mail? Though I'm surprised that he hasn't turned up in the new, right-wing Magill yet, unlike some of his FI protéges...
