Having visited the site last year this is well overdue. At present the battle ground is basically left alone with a few information points around the way to explain the significance of the site. A heritage centre like the excellent Somme heritage centre in Conlig should be built.

its an important tourist attraction too and will prove very popular when the site is developed.

I wonder will it be well visited by Orangemen since it's in the rotten foreign land of Ailand.

Will they march down or take the bus? ;-)

This is an extremly important historical site for everyone on this island and a significant site as concerns europe. Despite popular belief, the two sides were of mixed religion. King William's elite force in the battle were the Dutch blue guards which went into battle under a papel banner and consisted mostly of Dutch Catholics. There were many Protestant English and Scottish Jacobites on the field that day too. Some french regiments had german Protestants.
This battle was as much about the power struggle between King William and king Louis XIV of France. In fact this was Williams first victory after several nil all draws.

This is about the sixth time this has been announced. If the one at Aughrim (and the sacking of a guide whose tour was deemed too Unionist) is anything to go by I wouldn't hold my breath.

Any chance that similar buildup could be done to a battlefield site with a bit less political trouble? Like the site of the great tossing-out of Vikings in 1014?

I'm sorry, Andrew, but I'm not happy with this at all. My grandfather was Danish and the 1014 business still rankles in our family :(
