September 27, 2005 Blair: nothing good comes easy... Tony Blair opened his speech to the Labour party conference with Northern Ireland. Amid all the change and progress since our first election victory, it was interesting to see in the film there the pictures of the Good Friday Agreement in April 1998, and then finally, yesterday, the completion of IRA decommissioning. "..will have been worth it if it brings lasting peace to Northern Ireland." Hmm.. I'd prefer it if the stated objective was, specifically [and simply], a commitment to democracy.. That's the thing that really matters. Posted by: peteb at September 27, 2005 10:01 PM I'd prefer it if the stated objective was, specifically [and simply], a commitment to democracy.. Well eventually the unionist paramilitaries will get on board the peace train too. Posted by: Robert Keogh at September 27, 2005 10:50 PM Robert Did I exclude anyone from that preferred objective? No. *sheesh* Posted by: peteb at September 27, 2005 10:59 PM peteb, well they are the ones not exclusively committed to democracy so if you meant someone else I'm not sure who that could be. Posted by: Robert Keogh at September 27, 2005 11:20 PM ffs Posted by: peteb at September 27, 2005 11:29 PM Is Tony so ungracious he won't acknowledge that progress was made under John Major before him? Posted by: Occasional Commentator at September 28, 2005 01:04 PM OC Is Tony so ungracious he won't acknowledge that progress was made under John Major before him? In a leaders speech at a Labour Party conference? Its not really the place for acknowledging the last Tory Prime Ministers achievements, is it? Posted by: Ringo at September 28, 2005 02:00 PM |
