July 22, 2005 More 'activity' on the tube As they say 'it's all go over here'. I presume we will be hearing more from Ms. Hoey. Man shot dead by police on Tube
Passenger Mark Whitby told BBC News he had seen a man of Asian appearance shot five times by "plain-clothes police officers" with a handgun. "I saw the gun being fired five times into the guy - he is dead," he said. Passengers were evacuated from the Northern Line station in south London. Police have also cordoned off a 200-metre area around the station. Services on the Victoria and Northern lines have been suspended following a request by the police, London Underground said. Ambulances including an air ambulance have been sent to the scene at Stockwell.
Witness Mark Whitby 'They unloaded five shots'
"I heard a load of noise, people saying, 'Get out, get down'! "I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers. "One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him." Passenger Briony Coetsee said: "We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say, 'Get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots." Passenger Alison Bowditch told BBC News: "The tube pulled into the station and we were sitting there, you know, as you do and then there was just a lot of shouting and the sound of gunfire and then people were saying, 'Get off, get off!' "Somebody definitely went to the ground and as they went to the ground I heard gun fire and assumed they had been shot." A mosque in east London has been evacuated after a bomb scare - but a police cordon has now been lifted. After Thursday's London blasts, the bombers fled after detonators went off, causing small blasts, but failed to detonate the bombs themselves. New Statesman's front cover today: picture of a rucksack with "Blair's Bombs" written beside it. Succinctly sums up what how badly the Left has lost its way. It's a good job he wasn't an SF/IRA man, of we'd have thje usual whingers going on about a police "shoot to kill" policy. Posted by: Keith M at July 22, 2005 01:09 PM Yeah, Keith, he was a coloured man runing away from police, how much more guilty can you get? It's a good job he wasn't a scotsman carrying a broken bit of furniture.. Posted by: Biffo at July 22, 2005 02:07 PM Mick, Ask questions of government by all means but squarely blaming "Blair" (code for UK foreign policy) for a pitiless attack on random Londoners of all faiths and none is a sign that the Left is more interested in seeing the West get a bloody nose than finding a solution to all this. They weren't "Blair's bombs" they were the jihadis' bombs. Understanding is one thing - diluting responsibility from the bombers is quite another. Best, Posted by: Deaglan at July 22, 2005 02:13 PM I fail to see how any criticism of government policy, especially a critcism linking British policy in Iraq with the London bombings has anything whatsoever to do with diluting the responsibility of suicide bombers. Posted by: Jo at July 22, 2005 02:35 PM Again - asking questions is fine. Even bringing Iraq into it is - again - fine and a legitimate line of debate. Posted by: Deaglan at July 22, 2005 02:42 PM |
