More 'activity' on the tube
As they say 'it's all go over here'. I presume we will be hearing more from Ms. Hoey.

Man shot dead by police on Tube

A man has been shot dead by armed officers at Stockwell Tube station, as police hunt four would-be bombers.

Passenger Mark Whitby told BBC News he had seen a man of Asian appearance shot five times by "plain-clothes police officers" with a handgun.

"I saw the gun being fired five times into the guy - he is dead," he said.

Passengers were evacuated from the Northern Line station in south London. Police have also cordoned off a 200-metre area around the station.

Services on the Victoria and Northern lines have been suspended following a request by the police, London Underground said.

Ambulances including an air ambulance have been sent to the scene at Stockwell.

They pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him

Witness Mark Whitby

'They unloaded five shots'

Mr Whitby, told BBC News: "I was sitting on the train reading my paper.

"I heard a load of noise, people saying, 'Get out, get down'!

"I saw an Asian guy run onto the train hotly pursued by three plain-clothes police officers.

"One of them was carrying a black handgun - it looked like an automatic - they pushed him to the floor, bundled on top of him and unloaded five shots into him."

Passenger Briony Coetsee said: "We were on the Tube and then we suddenly heard someone say, 'Get out, get out' and then we heard gunshots."

Passenger Alison Bowditch told BBC News: "The tube pulled into the station and we were sitting there, you know, as you do and then there was just a lot of shouting and the sound of gunfire and then people were saying, 'Get off, get off!'

"Somebody definitely went to the ground and as they went to the ground I heard gun fire and assumed they had been shot."

A mosque in east London has been evacuated after a bomb scare - but a police cordon has now been lifted.

After Thursday's London blasts, the bombers fled after detonators went off, causing small blasts, but failed to detonate the bombs themselves.

New Statesman's front cover today: picture of a rucksack with "Blair's Bombs" written beside it.

Succinctly sums up what how badly the Left has lost its way.

It's a good job he wasn't an SF/IRA man, of we'd have thje usual whingers going on about a police "shoot to kill" policy.

Yeah, Keith, he was a coloured man runing away from police, how much more guilty can you get?

Deaglan,
I think your wrong, it is the duty of non governmental political activists to ask questions of their government. You may disagree with the questions asked, hard luck, this is what democracy is all about. get used to it, honour it and defend it, or would you prefer top live in a dictatorship? By the way, you should not suppose it is just those of us on the left who are asking questions about Blair involving the UK in Iraq, there are just as many people who are liberals, conservatives and non aligned who feel this war has been a disaster, especially for the Iraqi people.

Regards

Mick

Mick,

Ask questions of government by all means but squarely blaming "Blair" (code for UK foreign policy) for a pitiless attack on random Londoners of all faiths and none is a sign that the Left is more interested in seeing the West get a bloody nose than finding a solution to all this.

They weren't "Blair's bombs" they were the jihadis' bombs. Understanding is one thing - diluting responsibility from the bombers is quite another.

Best,
Deaglan

I fail to see how any criticism of government policy, especially a critcism linking British policy in Iraq with the London bombings has anything whatsoever to do with diluting the responsibility of suicide bombers.
Thinking in the UK is in a state remniscient of the immediate aftermath of 9/11 when, if anyone tried to make the link between US policy and the suicide bombings, that those people were somehow "traitorous" and obviously "against us" because there were only those two options available. That is a policy which sees things in black and white identifies morality with a government policy and is designed to stifle free thinking. In other words, the same brainwashed mentality that drives the suicide bombers.

Again - asking questions is fine. Even bringing Iraq into it is - again - fine and a legitimate line of debate.
But for Pilger (in NS) to say they were "Blair's bombs" is wrong and demonstrates how Left-wing analysis in Britain has mostly descended into anti-US/UK sentiment. Ditto G. Galloway and his SWP/radical Islamist "Respect" coalition.
