June 22, 2005 UUP: the main runners for Saturday... Have a look at last week's Hearts and Minds before it comes off line tomorrow. It contains a set piece between Alan McFarland and David McNarry, two of the main contenders for the Trimble succession at the UUP. We'd been interested in hearing your thoughts on both performances, and whether either has a decent chance against the more senior Reg Empey. Noel MacAdam in the Belfast Telegraph last night gave his run down of the main candidates. It's changed times for the disparate ranks of the UUC. Not so long ago, the international media assembled for each and every UUC huddle. It was the single, most crucial body to the political process apart from, perhaps, the IRA army council. Not so now. UUC members find themselves shunted into the political second division: more desperate than disparate.
