Now it's Microsoft XP as Gaeilge
Hot on the heels of Irish becoming an official EU language, Microsoft has launched Irish language packs for its Windows XP and Office 2003, in partnership with Foras na Gaeilge. Workers in Microsoft's Irish offices volunteered their time to do the localisation work, which involved translating over 600,000 terms. The packs are available for download from Microsoft Ireland

Maith sibh Microsoft! Gach rath ar an tionscnamh! Is maith bhur meas ar chultúir agus teangacha an domhain. Tugann sé faoiseamh dúinn siúd atá ag fulaingt faoi bharúlacha na n-amadán ar an suíomh seo!

Ar fheabhas amach is amach!

*Harrumph*

Info about LIP here, where it states that "LIP provides the desktop user with an approximately 80% localized user experience". The new Irish LIP was officially launched yesterday by Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs Eamon O’Cuiv. The Office 2003 language interface pack has not yet been released.

Maith sibh Microsoft,

beidh sé seo agam gan moill, tá mé sona sásta go bhfuil aithneas na gaeilge ag dul chun cinn ar fud an domhain ar fad.

Ar aghaidh linn

Gaelgeoirs will soon be used to this phrase, then:

"Rinne do ríomhaire oibríocht neamhdhlíthiúilach.

Caithfidh tú do ríomhaire a dúiseacht arís."

Hope the software is more reliable than the service. I got this when I went to get a download:

"Níl an íoslódáil a d'iarr tú ar fáil. Má fheiceann tú an teachtaireacht seo arís eile nuair a dhéanann tú iarracht rochtain a fháil ar an íoslódáil seo, d'fhéadfá an limistéar "Cuardaigh i gcomhair Íoslódála" ar leathanach baile an Download Center."

Roughly translated that is:

"The download you requested is unavailable. If you continue to see this message when trying to access this download, go to the "Search for a Download" area on the Download Center home page."

... which is also what you get when you try to download the english version !!!

Worked fine for me Hagrid, though I had to go through that stoopid verification process.

Took me three goes Hagrid but the third time it worked in two minutes flat. Persevere, it's good.

Iontach maith a Gherry Ó S!
