Having said that, I wonder what I would do if I was famous and someone who no doubt knew a lot of people in my crew threatened me with something like "Just let me do this or I'll write a book about everything". If you let them get away with that, many more would no doubt come out of the woodwork.

Of course U2 have money to burn, but does that mean they have to let people run roughshod?

Whilst posing as a rebel the fact that Presidents, prime ministers and priests line up to greet the guy shows just how much of a threat he is to the status quo, indeed he has become part of it and thus part of the problem.

Looking at the type of people who use a personal stylist makes me feel they all have one thing in common, they are in the main self obsessed empty vessels. Reading this thread also made me think how conservative rock and roll has become. An art form that was at the cutting edge when it first burst forth from the blues/country, with Elvis, etc has become totally reliant on the multi nationals and political establishment.

I caught some of the Glastonberry festival on the TV at the weekend, even taking into account my age the headline bands seemed to me to be pretty poor, all a much of a muchness. The average band reminded me of the likes of the Billy Cotton band when I was growing up, i e long past its sell by date. Time for the youngsters to sweep away the dreadful conservatism of Bono and the boys.[they almost always are boys]

I can't think of anything to say in this woman's favour. Cashman is a parasite trying to embarass her former employesrs because they would not pay her off. Frankly whoever was responsible for U2's "style" in the 80s would be best advised to keep very very quiet about it.

Bono's doing what everbody else is doing, St Mick included: making a buck and covering his arse. Of course it's far more fashionable to drown in your own puke but not enough musicians, or journos, are prepared to make that sacrifice these days.

Arguing that the band didn't have a leg to stand on in their claim to ownership of the trousers and other memorabilia, Mr Hartnett suggested the case was a "stunt" to distract Ms Cashman from a defamation suit she had begun in London.

This followed a letter from U2 to the auctioneers Christies, questioning the stylist's ownership of items being offered for sale, and casting doubt on the authenticity of boots signed by Larry Mullen.

The U2 drummer has since conceded that the boots and signature are his and that he did give them to the stylist.

News update, U2 won the case and Ms Cashman has been ordered to return the property - a bad day for the begrudgers.
