May 20, 2005 The Guardian's thoughts.... The Guardian has a savage cartoon, House of Cards, by Martin Rowson on Northern Ireland power sharing and Owen Bowcott takes a look at apparently irreconcilable positions by the DUP and Sinn Féin in Time to bury Good Friday, says Paisley Update:Ahern rejects Good Friday Agreement review Ian Paisley is holding all the aces in the cartoon. Is that the reason for the adjective 'savage' in Ambrose's intro?
I trust Ian Paisley is better at cards with Jerry and co., than was the unfortunate Mr. Trimble. Posted by: 6countyprod at May 20, 2005 01:46 PM 6CP - it's more subtle than that - Paisley is playing solitaire - and with only aces ...meanwhile in the background Gerry is carrying on playing with TB - and take a look at what Gerry has sticking out of his sleeve ;) Posted by: A.U. at May 20, 2005 01:49 PM Way to go, Jerry. Wouldn't it be wonderful if he could deliver the IRA to the Brits. My guess is, SF are keeping that card for the Irish electorate. Posted by: 6countyprod at May 20, 2005 01:54 PM Having a card up yer sleeve is only useful if the people you are playing with are unaware of its existance. The thing I noticed about the cartoon was the title, and the fact that Tony was looking at his watch. Posted by: TAFKABO at May 20, 2005 01:58 PM Right on. It's taking a long time for the problem (read: IRA) to go away. SF have a long finger strategy. It's taken them 100 years to get this far, and they are not much closer to seeing their ultimate goal (32 county Ireland, controlled by SF) accomplished. They certainly have a lot of patience. Posted by: 6countyprod at May 20, 2005 02:06 PM I thought that Papa Doc (Hon) was playing a game of patience in the cartoon, not subscribing to the Americanisation of all terminology. A multi barrelled (if you will forgive the term) approach. Posted by: MacSuiblaig at May 20, 2005 03:34 PM Who`s talking about a review? That`s a straw man. The old GFA`s a dead duck. Anyone for another game of poker? Posted by: 6countyprod at May 20, 2005 03:57 PM If king Pragmatist Bertie Ahern has said there will be no negotiation of the Agreement then that's clear. And I'm a small plastic Teapot called Jeremy. Posted by: BogExile at May 20, 2005 04:45 PM |
