Sinn Féin surge in Meath?
That's apparently what the Meath Chronicle is saying in the paper version - there's no mention on the website! Sinn Féin's Joe Reilly is on 14.9%, that's up 5.5% on the previous general election. And welcome Chris to the blogosphere in his own right!

oh come on, Sinn Fein are never going to make that big an impact on what was John "the unionist" Brutons seat for so long

A figure without a sample size is meaningless.

Slug, you are not so quick to comment when the polls are not in Sinn Feins favour. But we will not have to wait long for the real poll, I am sure you will not be quick to comment then either.

"Slug, you are not so quick to comment when the polls are not in Sinn Feins favour."

When was that? The margin of error is 4.7% since the poll was of 500 people. The 'true' SF figure could be a lot higher. Especially as polls traditionally underrepresent SFs vote.

"Especially as polls traditionally underrepresent SFs vote". - is that always true?

Mick - in NI yes but I don't know about the Republic.

It is often true in the Republic, not always.
