Correct Henry, no doubt local Gardai were on the phone to HQ and urged to hod fire until today. Although those arrested can only be held for 12 hrs one suspects they will be held long enough to carry over to election day.

Even if true is there anything wrong with confronting drug dealers. Has dealing and the like not increased simply because the cops turn a blind eye and communities follow suit.

The RTE report says that two people were acccused of being drug dealers and were threatened .... should the Gardai arrest people accused by republicans ?

Lets get real how many times have we seen this type of political intervention prior to elections my bet all released without charge and very little reporting of the fact.

A couple of pairs of shoes and Xmas presents were arrested and apparently that proved IRA involvement in the Northern. Lets be consistent.

Maybe it's just paranoia that makes you think this is all a big conspiracy but maybe you're right and maybe it's the current thirst for SF blood in the media that made RTE report a bit of a non-story or maybe it's true.

No there isn't and no they don't, in my opinion. There's a serious drug problem in this country (one of the highest levels of drug-related deaths in Europe) and a hell of a lot more needs to be done to tackle it.

I'm not too bothered if the IRA put the squeeze on drug dealers (as long as they are not just wiping out the competition of course)

The problem with that is that once a system of tithing is established it suits those taxing the dealers for the dealers to prosper.

Of course. Though i'm not talking about allowing any kind of system to develop. I only mean in individual cases like these I won't lose any sleep over it. Ideally we'd be in a situation where we'd have a police force with the training, experience and resources to tackle such crime, we don't have that.
