SDLP doomed by lack of courage
Despite having been a party stalwart for many of the toughest years of the troubles Brian Feeney can hardly be accused of sparing the SDLP's blushes in along the way. This week is no exception. He just doesn't see the logic of the party coming in behind West Tyrone's independent candidate Kieran Deeney. It is, he argues, another case of the party's unwillingness to take on their primary rival - Sinn Fein!

Mick, are you serious. This has been the longest tantrum in the history of politics. Edward heath seems like Maggie's biggest fan in comparison to this.

Get over it Bri, the SDLP didn't appreciate you as much as you did - so what. Time to grow up.

Tantrum or no tantrum this is quite an interesting piece. The crux of what Feeney is saying is that the Continuity SDLP, as they were described by Gerry Adams in Derry on Sunday, would do any thing they possibly could to damage Sinn Fein. One might say thats politics but if you are prepared to abandon your own position to achieve this goal then what are you in politics for.

The current leadership of the SDLP have a deep rooted anti republican core to their way of working that it is distorting how they can reinvent the SDLP.

Mark Durkan has to be the most incapable leader of a political party since John Alderdyce or IDS. Without doubt Sinn Fein have been taking an unparrelled hammering in the media recently and still Durkan is making blunder after blunder United Ireland why say it who was ot going to impress, even thinking about giving up West Tyrone no need to say it, just do it.

With all the issues that SF have had to deal with in recent months one would have expected Durkan to be a shoe in. Would anyone like to call the Foyle race. Win lose or draw in Foyle for the SDLP to have any chance of long term survival Durkan and his whizz kids have to go.

Jacko, next time a former Republican has a rant at the current leadership etc can I quote you?

DerryTerry
Quote me whenever you like, just try to be accurate.

I love the terminology, by the way.
"The Leadership", so resonant of the dictatorship mentality, don't you think.

Feeney's right on this one. The day and hour the SDLP called on the electorate to help them stop the DUP was the very moment they declared themselves politically bankrupt.

J Kelly is also right, if Durkan can't capitalise on Sinn Fein's recent problems then he should step aside and let someone else have ago. The SDLP is severely lacking in courage.

Dualta's spot on as usual.

The SDLP continues to choose the wrong issues and the wrong approach.

I suspect the Leadership is not its only problem, but it's clearly a problem.

The article is, in fact, very good - rather better than his despicable rant last week, anyway!
