By the way Mick, there is the usual long list of Sinn Fein bashing threads on this site, why is there no reference to the comments of my compatriot Judge Cory.

I think the way the British evade the finucanes right to justice, is a interesting counterpose to the McCartney case, especially as it displays a degree of duplicity on the behalf of the British government. They are of course calling for Sinn Fein to act on the McCartney case, while running away from their responsibilities in the Finucane case and others.

I agree with Cory's remarks, and I'm glad that someone is holding Britain's feet to the fire. It must be clear surely to those who support the Finucanes that the provisionals face a fundamental credibility problem in seeking to do this.

I haven't missed that point at all. We are in the realms of that dread Irish disease of whataboutery. I can assure you that I was horrified by what I read in Cory's report and regard the British response as unacceptable. I find the tendancy I have observed by SF representatives to use this case as if it were somehow a defence to accusations made against their own organisation as tacky in the extreme. I'm glad to see Ahern taking this up and hope he will display more vigour than he has up to now. The reality is that nothing said by SF on the subject of justice is going to be taken particularly seriously.

The RUC had a significantly better clear-up rate for loyalist terrorism during the troubles than they did for republican terrorism.

Of course they did... Since they were actively allied with and directing the activities of at least some of the Protestant paramilitaries, when you have men inside ordering the crimes, how bright would they have to be to catch the very thugs they dispatched?
