December 31, 2004 Crimbo How did we all get on with the Crimbo Pressies ? I got the socks and sweets and a 25 years of Viz book.(Rude link) The late presents are arriving - yesterday a copy of what looks to be a fascinating book, Oracles of God by Patrick Murray, reviewed here by Fern Lane in AP/RN.Today two excellent cds by Irish artists new to me, O by Damien Rice and the especially wonderful Season of the Hurricane by Juliet Turner, reviewed in the Sunday Herald. Lucky you Ambrose, I got an Action Man deserter yet again.
Posted by: Pat Mc Larnon I got a binbag full of Northern Bank notes with a tag labelled "Merry Xmas, from the Provos". I wasn't too pleased.
Posted by: Roger W. Christ XVII I got an iPod, Cronicles Volume One, by Bob Dylan and one of those new Gillette razors with the batttery.
Posted by: Henry94 I got a dongle - infinite opportunities!
Posted by: Alan Dare I ask- what is a dongle ? ;)
Posted by: Davros Davros, it's basically a device for a computer which ensures only authorised users can access certain applications. Either that or some sort of kinky sex toy!
Posted by: maca All sounds very dubious, not the sort of thing a quiet country lad would need !
Posted by: Davros Sorry to keep you in suspenders, but a dongle is a tiny piece of kit that connects your computer by bluetooth to other bluetooth devices such as a phone, printer, scanner, headphones, fridge (!!!). The one I have attaches to the usb. It cost under £20 on the internet (the same spec sony version costs £79!). It will mean no more spagetti out the back of the box and I can store the printer etc anywhere within a 10 metre radius. Oh and I can download the photos off the mobile phone for free too.
Posted by: Alan Bluetooth ?
Posted by: Davros Bluetooth is wireless connectivity. Most new mobiles will already have bluetooth. It can be used for connecting anything - an example would be the new ear-pieces for mobiles. Technically, I can sit outside in the sun while the computer is on and talk to my canadian relatives sitting out side in the sun - for free (the weather of course is optional). The infinite opportunities might involve accessing the internet via your mobile - for free. You could update your contact lists on the computer, rather than the phone. You could upload a promo leaflet to your phone and print it out on a usb printer if your client has connectivity. Etc . . .etc.
Posted by: Alan Cheers Alan.
Posted by: Davros Sounds good. I have bluetooth on my phone but usually have to transfer pics to my PC by IR. Might have go get myself one of dem dongle thingies.
