September 30, 2004 DUP says prepare for change... Interesting statement just issued by Gregory Campbell, in which he tells Sinn Fein and the SDLP to prepare for change. It's primarily noteable as a nicely weighted inversion of an earlier nationalist narrative that Unionists were naturally averse to change? I think this point is worth raising: "the cultural identity of the pro Union people being offered the same facilities as the Irish identity" Any pro-Union Irish feel like commenting?
Posted by: maca It's noteworthiness seems entirely due to it being, unusually for the DUP, a slick bit of spin, Mick.

I was born by the river in a little tent It's been too hard living, but I'm afraid to die BRIDGE: And then I go to see my brother There were times when I thought I couldn't last for long REPEAT VERSE 2 Seems appropriate ! On this I think Gregory is right. The main nationalist parties have repeatedly said that Change is needed on both sides of the fence.
Posted by: Davros I watched Paisley walking down the Stormont stairwell (20/9/4) with, and only with, his Paisleyite and his Reformed Free Presbyterian MLAs: i.e. His son, The Rev Willie (Let us all hope the singing policeman never gets the justice portfolio!), William Hay (Who condoned his leader’s remarks on Romanist Journalists) and of course the future leader Dodds. Yep there is going to be change all right, but alas not for the better.

Posted by: Butterknife Campbell said "changes are needed to reflect the Northern Ireland of 2004", yet on the BBC last week (H&M or Let's Talk... one of the two) he spoke about a new agreement in 2005.
Posted by: Belfast Gonzo As a citizen of what Gregory calls "that Country" and having been born in what Gregory calls "the Capital of that Country", I say bring on the change, the utter the better.
Posted by: George Gonzo the two aren't incompatible.... I would assume
Posted by: Davros "genuine equality in the employment field being offered to the Unionist community" Oh dear, if this is evidence of the new type of thinking presently doing the rounds in the DUP we'll just have to wait a bit longer on reality coming to town.
